He was born on Nov 17, 1924 in Brownwood TX. A decorated WWII veteran, enlisting in the USMC at age 18, he was among the first wave to land on Iwo Jima. He received his Purple Heart after being wounded on the tenth day of battle and was honorably discharged in 1945.

After marrying he moved to Phoenix in 1951. Leonard ultimately realized his dream job by working 28 years at the Arizona Livestock Department and retired as a Captain. Leonard's avocation was long distance bicycle riding. He participated in multiple charity bike rides. Leonard was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather: a 14 year cancer survivor who inspired all who knew him through his perseverance and unwavering optimism.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Gloria, Leonard is survived by his children: Carla Edwards (Rob), Paula Montgomery (Danny), Pamela Talbert (Paul), Marc Adcock (Manon), grandchildren: Bryan and Graham Edwards, Brett and Shawn Montgomery, Jacob and Tyler Ellis and Alyssa Talbert, and Emily, Elise, and Eden Adcock, and great grandchildren Connor and Landon Montgomery, Sisters: Patsy Gregg and Betty Graham, and brother: Leiland Adcock. Services will take place on Tuesday April 6th, 11am at Christ Church of the Ascension, 4015 Lincoln Dr, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. Laureen was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Herle Reich and her brothers, Bob and Ron Reich. She is survived by her daughter Leslie Brennan, her son Scott Alden, her sisters Marilyn, Karen, Joyce, and her brothers Jay and Larry. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren who were very dear to her heart.

A loving wife, mother and friend. Judy is survived by her husband Garnet and children Michael Bonnie, Chris Sheila. Grandchildren Gman, Rebecca, and Brandon. Daughter in law Patty Allen, and son in law Walter Lopez. Her beloved siblings Patricia Gatza and Donald Cosgrove.

Barfuss, Maria Candelas On official U.S. documents or Maria de la Concepcion Candelas Sanchez Hita de Barfuss on official Spanish documents and church records. Cande was born December 8, 1951 in Guadalajara, Spain as the fourth child of Julio Sanchez Jadraque and Cirila Hita Roman. She left this earthly existence March 27, 2010 at the age of 58, surrounded by family and friends. She was fluent in three languages and certified as an English Spanish translator by the University of Arizona.

Cande met her husband Arnold M. Barfuss while he was stationed in Torrejon, Spain with the United States Air Force. They were married in Gibraltar, Great Britain 7 August 1985 and lived in Meco, Spain until her husband was transferred to Luke Air Force Base. She was sealed to her husband in the Mesa Arizona Temple 30 July 1988. She lived the rest of her life in Peoria, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband Arnold M. Barfuss and her elder sisters Julia, Maria Teresa, and Antonia Sanchez Hita. Her nephews Vicente, Pablo, and Niece Maria Cardona Sanchez. She also had three Daughters, Noosala Cyr, Sherri Ramsey and Melodi Rios and 8 step Grandchildren.

She worked for the Nature Conservancy for 10 years and the Arizona Department of Education for 10 years. Her last position was as CSPD- Program and Project Specialist Exceptional Student Services (ESS). The viewing will be Wednesday March 31, 2010 from 6 8 p.m. at the Acoma Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 7871 W. Acoma Dr.

Peoria, Arizona. The Funeral will be held Thursday April 1, 2010 at the Peoria Arizona Stake Center at 10:00 a.m., 12951 N. 83 rd Ave. Peoria, Arizona. She will be laid to rest in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Advantage Maryvale Mortuary, Bennett, Vesper Rose Pittman (Stoeve) age 92, passed away March 19, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. Vesper was born on October 7, 1917 in Rollo, IL to Hudson and Mabelle Pittman. She married Olaf A. Stove on September 13, 1941, and together they had four children: David R. Stove (Barbara), Andrew P.

Stove, Stephanie Ross (Gregory), and Mark S. Stove. Vesper was proud of her seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. With her loving ways and terrific people skills, Vesper was a devoted pastor's wife during a 28 year marriage to Rev. Stove before his death in 1969.

Other than her many church activities Vesper was a longtime member of P.E.O. On August 4, 1973, Vesper married Vallee C. Bennett and they lived happily together until his death in 1992. Vesper Rose had a great sense of humor and a wonderful spirit for living and loving her family and friends. She will be immensely missed and eternally loved by all those she leaves behind.

May God's love and promise of eternal life be her reward for faithful service. We love you always. Bernas, S. Therese 84, of Phoenix passed away on March 26, 2010. Therese was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Floyd John Bernas, who died less than three months ago.

Born in New York, Therese grew up on Long Island with her parents, Walter and Sadie McKay, and her siblings. She attended nursing school and met Floyd at Long Island Jewish Hospital. They moved to Arizona in 1959 to start a family and she worked as a nurse, raised her family and charmed everyone along the way. She retired from nursing and she and Floyd spent time at their cabin and watching their grandchildren in sports, bands, plays and more. She is survived by her three children: Michael J.

Bernas and his wife Sue, Katherine Promberger and her husband Jim and Judith A.Bernas; as well as her grandchildren Timothy, Mark, Lauren Nicholas, Joe and Olivia. She also is survived by her brother, Joseph McKay and his wife Audrey; and many cousins, including Jean and John Dacey and their children. A rosary and viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 30, from 6-8 p.m. at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W.

Borkowski, Rose Rose Borkowski, beloved daughter of Harry and Estella Whetzal, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at 85 years old. She was born in Ordway, Colorado in 1924 as Elizabeth Rose Whetzal.

Rose grew up in Jet, Oklahoma and became Rose Handy when she married Byron Handy Sr. in 1943. After Byron's death in 1974, she married Walter Borkowski in 1984 and became known as Rose Borkowski. Rose was a loving daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She also had many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Estella; first husband Byron Handy second husband Walter Borkowski; son Roger Handy; sisters Mary Schwartz, Margaret Parrot, Ruth Caufield, and brother Frank Whetzal. Rose is survived by her sons Byron Handy, Jr. (Michelle) and Greg Handy (Norma); brother John Whetzal (Janice); grandsons Byron Handy, Ill (Traci), Rob Handy (Jennifer), and Nick Jones (Kelsey); granddaughter Kim Hertsch (Chris); great grandchildren Caitlyn, Madalyne, Kaylyn, Madison, Olivia, Kailin, and Jacob. Rose was the example of unconditional love. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. John (Jack) married his high school sweetheart, Margaret (Peggy) and they raised their four children, Linda, John Cheryl and Don. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Aldina Bribes and his late wife Peggy.

Jack met his second wife Helen Rodgers in Payson, Arizona and they were married in Mesa, Arizona in 2007. Jack was a long time resident at Del Oro where a Memorial Service was held to celebrate his life. So Babe, God be with you and may you rest in peace. Juanita A. 79 of Scottsdale, passed away on March 21, 2010.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2010, Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 8310 E. Thomas Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. Juanita completed a degree in Nursing and spent 40 years serving patients. She also spent a great deal of time with service at the church and with her friends in the congregation. She often said that the two things most important in her life were being a mother and her dedication to serve Jehovah.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, BiliKay, his son Cord, sisters Gale and Patti, and his many nieces and nephews. Mike retired from APS as a Land Services Supervisor after 33 years of dedicated service. MESSINGER Deur, Vicky passed away on March 26, 2010 after a courageous fight with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Vicky was a native Arizonian born October 26, 1950. She graduated from Washington High School and ASU with a degree in Journalism. Vicky quickly established herself as an advertising executive in the Phoenix market place. Vicky, who celebrated life was loved and received well by all whose paths crossed hers.

Her leadership and loyalty to family and friends was a staple in a brilliant career and beautiful life. For the past ten and a half years Vicky was the Media Director at Arvizu Advertising and her associates there became a part of her extended family. Vicky is survived by her husband Tom who was her best friend and soul mate, mother Patricia Murdock, sister Nancy Parker and brother Charles Murdock and her beloved Scotties Mac and Mollie. Go rest in peace my darling, your pain is gone and you are in a far better place. A celebration of Vicky's life will be private.

King, Justin Wayne THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC 31, a resident of Albuquerque, formerly of Phoenix, passed away from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident on Sunday, March 28, 2010 in Albuquerque. Justin was the loving son of Donna and Kim Wilt and Robbie King; brother of Erin and Patrick Carabajal, Kenny Wilt and Ryan Wilt. Justin was the grandson of Benjamin and Geraldine Roscoe and Betty Rose Wade all of Albuquerque and great-grandson of Margaret Smelser. His wife, Faith Hollingsworth Lawson, was with him in their home at Emerald Groves, in Mesa, AZ. Howard was born on January 9, 1917 to Charles and Evalyn Lawson, in Lodi, WI.

He was a man of many talents and, after serving as navigator of a B- 17 in the Army Air Corps during World War II, chose to spend most of his career life as a bookkeeper and accountant. Howard retired from the Washington State Auditor's Office in 1979 and lived in Edmonds, WA for several years before moving to Arizona. Howard is survived by his wife, Faith; his son Rick (wife Pat) Lawson; his daughter, Faith (husband Ken) Crawford; seven and grandchildren and five missed. Melcher great-grandchildren. He was born in Endicott, NY. He retired from 23yrs in the USAF in WWII Battle Zones in the pacific islands. He was at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese bombed. He is survived by wife Patricia, daughters Jeanine and Joanne and son John. Stepchildren John, Michael David Todd.

Services will be finalized in Florida McCarthy, Constance Fascia Constance Fascia McCarthy, 77, of Glendale, Arizona died peacefully, with her family at her side, on March 25, 2010. Connie, as she was known to those who loved and knew her, was born on May 26, 1932 in Albany, NY. She was the daughter of the late Constantine and Carmina (Enzien) Fascia, and was preceded in death by her brother, Edwin Fascia. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James; her sons David (Roxanne) and Brian (Karen); her daughters Lisa (Kevin Wicks) and Christina (Cecilia Ochoa); her grandchildren Christopher (Krystal), Cassandra, Joel, Daniel (Sarah), Katherine, Miranda, Sean, Matthew, and Ethan; and her great-grandchildren Aidan and Liam.

She graduated from Mechanicville High School in 1949. Thereafter, she graduated from Syracuse University with her Bachelor of Science (Summa Cum Laude) and her Master's of Science (Magna Cum Laude). As a dedicated speech pathologist in education, she served her profession for almost 60 years. During that time she played significant roles in the beginning of two programs designed to meet the needs of at-risk students: the Oral Language Development Class (OLDC) and Search to Serve. Her dedication, compassion, and tenacity impacted the lives of many children and their families.

Her service to these children came out of her desire to do what was in their best interest and a true sense of love and care. She also co-authored several books that were designed to meet the needs of at-risk students. She retired from the Washington School district after a long tenure in 1998. She remained licensed and maintained her CCC-SLP while continuing in private practice and mentoring others until her death. In her retirement years, she enjoyed attending concerts and shows with her husband and spending time with her family.

Connie is dearly loved and respected by her family, friends, and colleagues. As a mother, she instilled a sense of independence, integrity, and passion. She knew how to bring out the best in each of her children and help them to grow into adulthood and parenthood. She will be immensely missed. Although she is no longer with us, her legacy will continue.

She was born on October 3, 1916 to Rex and Eva Belle Ruggy in Salem Ohio. Ruth contracted polio in 1920 at the age of four. Due to that her right leg was six inches shorter than her left but Ruth never let that disability slow her down. She graduated from Wooster College and then got a Master's Degree in Math from Ohio Wesleyan University. During World War Il she was a research physicist for the Armstrong Cork Company.

After the war she married John Metzger. She was a popular math and science teacher in Lawton, Oklahoma where they lived for 10 years and in Phoenix at both Gerard Shadow Mountain High School. For most of her life she was and reader. She was preceded in death by her brother her husband John in 1993. Marian H. Moulinier, a 30 year resident of Sedona, Arizona slipped away to be with the Lord on March 28th. Marian was born the 3rd child of Mary Olson and John Logan Higginbottom, a telegraph operator in Murray, Utah on January 11, 1928. Marian's parents died in 1940 and she went to live with an aunt and uncle in Pennsylvania. She graduated from Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 1949.

While in Nursing School she met and later married John Rodman (Rod) Moulinier. They had 4 children before moving to Scottsdale, AZ in 1954. In 1956 they had a second set of twins. The family were members of Saint Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church where Marian was very active. She was also active in the Scottsdale Girls Club Guild, the Phoenix Zoo Auxillary, the PTA, the Calvary Church of the Valley and Casa de Amigas Auxilary.

In 1982 Marian moved to Sedona where she was active at Sedona Christ Center, served a term as President of The Verde Valley Guidance Clinic and was a volunteer at the Sedona and Verde Valley Medical Centers. Marian wanted to be remembered for her "walk with The Lord." She was a dedicated Christian and witness for Jesus Christ. Her family and friends will also remember her as a gracious hostess, a wonderful cook and a Prayer Warrior with a genuine caring for others. She was direct, had an uncompromising nature and lived her faith. She enjoyed RVing and camping, was a dog and a bird enthusiast, and a dedicated gardener.

Marian is preceded in death by a son Philip Price Moulinier and her brother William Higginbottom She leaves behind a sister and brother-in-law, Rowena Ed Morelock of Pennsylvania, her sons William Redwood (Red) Barbara) in Rehoboth Beach, DE, Edward Logan Lisa) of Lewes, DE Robert Cardwell Deirdre) of Sedona, AZ, Michael Elliot Marie) of Philadelphia, PA and a daughter Margaret Haviland Capozio of Lewes, DE, 14 grand-children and 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many, many friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 100 Arroyo Pinon Drive, Sedona, AZ 86336 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Marian's name to the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, PO Box 2013, Cottonwood, AZ 86326. Mullet, 90, passed away on March 17.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Miriam Mariella, his daughters, Miriam Kaiser, Dr. Anne Mariella, and Dr. Patricia Mariella, and his son Dr. Raymond Mariella, Jr. as well as his grandchildren, Brett Lynch and his wife Maria Galvin, J.R.

Pribula, Margaret Mariella, Stefan Pribula and Holly Mariella. Ray Mariella was born on September 5, 1919, in Philadelphia, and attended the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a degree in chemistry. He went on to earn a Doctorate in 1945 at Carnegie Institute of Technology where he helped develop synthetic rubber, critical to winning World War Il. In Pittsburgh, he met and married the love of his life, Miriam McMahon, and then joined Loyola University in Chicago as chair of the Chemistry Department. He hosted "Fun with Chemistry' on WTTW-TV in Chicago and, later, a weekly series on CBS called "Science Ray was Michael Ray Michael Ray Mullet entered into eternal life on March 25, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona.

He was born in Elkhart, Indiana on November 9, 1952. He was the son of Simon and Helen Mullet and brother to Linda and Greg Mullet. He was the proud parent of Nathanael and Amanda Mullet. Michael loved and served the Lord with all of his heart. He attended Church For The Nations.

Michael will be laid to rest next to his father at Glendale Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, April 2, 2010. Dr. Mariella taught chemistry for several summers to disadvantaged youth in New Mexico and came to love the Southwest.

After retiring, he and Miriam moved to Sun City West and Ray pursued his lifelong interest in stamps. He served as President of the Sun City West Coin and Stamp Club, the Arizona Federation of Stamp Clubs and was elected a trustee of the Postal History Foundation. In 2006 he became a member the Arizona State Philatelic Hall of Fame. Funeral arrangements are by Best Funeral Services. Donations may be made in his name to Hospice of the Valley..
