V. fl 3 ALIA ED JTf Ni I Phoenix, Sunday, March 29, 1964 The Arizona Republic F-13 Some Hints From Heloise Engagements I DEAR HELOISE: Thura. Fri. J) I Mr Daily from Vl IJll Closed Sundays Th World's Urptf CfrpUy of Mtple In answer to the question by one of your gentlemen readers "Are the pleats worn up or down on a cummerbund?" please tell him unequivocally that they are worn "UP." The reason for this is very simple: All cummerbunds were once made with a pocket on each side in which a watch and boiling water over these soap chips. After it sits overnight, it becomes a goopy sort of magic cleaner.

When washing dishes, take a sponge and dip into this soap glop. Thomas S. Try using your grater or meat grinder for making soap chips! Real perk. They are uniform and dissolve quickly too. bontier mmm co.

Use the pliers to hold the nail over a gas burner until it is real hot. Use tliis heated nail to make the hole; in the plastic jug. This is excellent for drainage when using plastic jugs for potting plants.

Use the correct size nail according to how large you want the hole. Tony SOAP SAVER DEAR HELOISE: Save all the leftover scraps of soap and cnt them in small pieces. Then pour Heloise think it would be a great idea. What 'cha say, gals? Heloise FOR STIFF UPPER LIPS DEAR HELOISE: Did you know that if you put a little starch in your napkins and tablecloths they will resist soil and stains? I find that when soil gets on the fabric, the starch itself absorbs the spot instead of its soaking into the fibers of the fabric. When the starch is washed out most of the stain will leave without any pre-treat-ing.

I do not use plastic starch for this. I use the regular powdered, boiled starch. G. S. True! 1 checked with a starch company.

Heloise THOSE CRAZY PAJAMAS DEAR HELOISE: Did you ever make "Crazy Pajamas" for your children? I make a sleeve out of one scrap of leftover material, a leg from another remnant, and the back and front out of different or contrasting patterns that happen to be in my scrap box the kids love them! It's economical, too, because it uses up all the scraps LINEN CLOSET DEAR HELOISE: When putting away the bedding for sets of twin beds, I fold the contour sheet a little smaller than the top sheet and slip it inside the last fold of my top sheet. This saves fumbling for "companion" sheets on bed-changing days. Lois Jones SERVICE PR" nartonal tion, eT y0Ur homo! rf NO Ser.wi. WH p0 i P'-" f0U NO chain, and perhaps a cigar cutter on the other end, could be worn. As the price of cummerbunds came down, the pockets were eliminated, since not too many men wear pocket watches these days.

Benjamin J. Gingiss Thank you, sir, for that answer. Now if only the manufacturers would make the pleats a little deeper then we wives could stick our cosmetics in them and thus eliminate cluttering up our purses, huh? Or should we wives start wearing cummerbunds? I HOME SILK SHOP SENSATIONAL FRONTIER i FREE JV mor $150 or OPEN MON. I 2002 E. McDowell AL 8-0111 P.M.
