Burton J. Lewin, From Left By MAGGIE SAVOY Spring was never lovelier than this year. Not only have we in the Valley had a wonderful spring (just one April shower for May flowers) but spring took over the Arizona Biltmore last night for the "Ballo di Primavera" and it was never lovelier. The Phoenix Symphony Guild's annual ball was set in a garden of spring flowers. And the loveliest of all were the gaily gowned socialites who filled the hotel for the top social event of the spring season.

Ballgowns were in all the rainbow colors brilliant to pastel and mostly long and flowing. And the whole affair, of course, had music in it: Not only the music of the night, but music for the Valley all next year. For the money raised by the hardworking members of the guild in this, their Maggie (5 to 1 Mrs. Guy Taylor, wife of our conductor, took time off from her rehearsals of "The Music Man" to be there. And the George E.

Leonards had tickets in their hands: They fly to West Point soon for the graduation of their sdn, Leigh C. Fairbank III. PARTIES Fore and aft: The Don Tintarys had their friends for cocktails before the ball at their Camelback home And the G. Robert Herbergers will have a Sunday evening supper party for their guests, the Stewart Martins of Los Angeles (she's Angela Greene, TV and movie star), the Michael Gottliebs and the Daniel Gaineys of Scottsdale, who are packing up to leave their winter home in Owatonna, Minn. This morning the Walter Colemans are hosting an after-the-ball brunch for the Flagstaff contingent (including the Tom Pollocks and the George Babbitts).

At that, I don't think we should call the Babbitts Northerners, now that they've leveled the top of Marshmallow Hill for their home here. "We should name it 'Fort Knox'," says George. "We've buried so much money there we can't dig it out." But Mrs. Babbitt thinks they'll call it "Hard Rock Candy Mountain." Celebrating his birthday (though it was a few days ago) was C. W.

(Bill) Bond with Dorothy. And packing up to go away again is Miss Patricia Benton, New York poetess who spent the winter in Phoenix and Sedona. Her most recent book, "Love Is," is a lovely gift for someone you love.
