Momberger said he often takes target practice and has competed in shooting events. Jones said that the weapons were seized but that all but the 9mm handgun were returned. That weapon will be used as evidence to support the misdemeanor citation, he said. Jones said the other guns included two pellet guns, a Magnum, a Magnum, a revolver, a.22-caliber handgun and an AR-I5 semiautomatic assault rifle. 'Arizona State University police filed a complaint Wednesday against a 19-year-old student after eight guns, including a semiautomatic assault rifle, and six knives were found in his dormitory room and pickup truck.

Police discovered the weapons Friday after the student, Hans Mom-berger, 19, accidently shot himself in the hand while unloading a 9mm semiautomatic pistol. The incident occurred in his room at Hayden Hall, Sgt. Bob Jones, an ASU police spokesman, said. Momberger was treated at Tempe St. Luke's Hospital and released.

It is against university policy to have any weapon on campus, according to Art Carter, the university's assistant dean of student life. Carter said the complaint was filed with the university after the campus police completed their investigation. Momberger also has been cited by ASU police for discharging a firearm within city limits. If he is charged and convicted of the misdemeanor, he could receive a fine of as much as $750 and a four-month jail sentence. A university hearing on the matter has 'yet to be scheduled, Carter said.

Momberger could get probation, be expelled from the dormitory or suspended from ASU, he said. Momberger said that he keeps the guns at the home of a relative and that he had them Friday because he had planned to go to a shooting range during the weekend.
