THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC Buckner, Leo (Bud) 87 of Phoenix, passed away on June 13, 2009. Preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Beatrice; four sisters, Margaret, Leone, Florence, Mary and a grandson Josh. He is survived by one son, Leo (Barbara) Buckner, three daughters; JoAnn (Michael) Gill, Paulette (William) Dunbar and Sandy Flanagan, sister; Anna Palmeri, beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and very special nieces and nephews. A memorial serv- ice will be held at Northern Hills Community Church 2740 E. Union Hills Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85050 on ThursVETERAN day, July 30, 2009 at 4:00 P.M.

Dignity Buell, Dorothy May 86, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 21, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 13, 1922, to John and Katherine Deutschlander and was proud to serve her country during WWII in the Navy W.A.V.E.S. from 1943-1946. While in the service, she met her future husband and they ried in 1947. She was generous in nature and donated to charities, veteran groups, and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, knitting baby caps and booties for struggling families.

She also enjoyed knitting slippers and crocheting lovely afghan blankets that will provide comfort for years to come. Her passing will leave a void will be greatly missed by her family, caring friends, and She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, by her children Katie (Paul) Bryant, Patty, and Jerry and two great-grandchildren. A memorial servlife will be held on July 30that 10:30 am at Northwest 16615 N. 43rd Ave, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, donations charity in her honor.

Advantage Funeral Home, 6901. W. Inhandling the arrangements Burton, Florence 87, of Tempe, Arizona passed away on Friday, July 17, 2009 at Friendship Village Care Center from cancer. Born in Ashland, Oregon on October 23, 1921 to Clyde and Charlotte Mechem. She grew up in Southern California.

Also lived in Northern California and New Jersey. Retirement brought her and her husband to Sun Lakes, AZ. Florence was an avid crafter making quilts, counted cross stitch and also collected dolls. She and her husband loved to travel the world together and also enjoyed many motor home trips with RV groups. Florence will be missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 53 years. She is survived by Daughters Sandi Robinson (Ralph) and sons Scott Sean of Mesa, Arizona and Sharon Blomquist (Irv) daughter, Amy of Loma Mar, California. Also her sister Margaret Mushinskie of Temple City, California. Final resting place will be at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, California Remembrance can be made in her memory to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014. Byrom, Fletcher L. in many lives and she endearing neighbors. Paul. She is survived (Suzy); three grandchildren, ice to celebrate her Community Church, may be made to a dian School Rd. is of State College, PA passed away July 23, 2009.

Born on July 13, 1918 in Lakewood, OH he graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1940 with a B.S. in Metallurgy. Working at the Naval Ordnance Lab, DC during WWII he met and married Marie L. Mcintyre on February 17, 1945. He received the Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award.

Moving to Pittsburgh, he worked at Koppers, Inc. becoming President in 1960, and then served as CEO and Chairman of the Board from 1967 until his retirement in 1982. He served on various boards including Ralston Purina, ASARCO, Lever Brothers and North American Phillips. He held a chair on the Stock Exchange; was director of the Institute for Advanced Study and the Hudson Institute, served on the Federal Reserve Board of Pittsburgh, and was chairman of the Conference Board. He was also a member of the Committee for Economic Development, the President's Export Council and the Public Education Fund.

Dedicated to the community of Pittsburgh, he helped found NEED, National Alliance of Business, and PACE. He is honored at Freedom Corner. He also served on the boards of the Allegheny Conference, Blue Cross, University Presbyterian Hospital, Carnegie Mellon University, and the United Way. Retiring in 1982, the Byroms moved to Carefree, AZ. Fletcher continued his dedication to education by helping to establish the Community Education Fund.

In 2001 they returned to State College where he remained active in PSU activities. Fletcher is survived by his wife, Peg of 64 years, son Mike, and daughters Carol and Susan, 6 grandchildren and 2 great- grand children. A memorial service will be held at the Eisenhower Chapel, State College at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 2. Janice was born to Nola Mae and Fletcher Beauford Ray on March 1, 1927 in Forks of the Creek, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Oscar Albert Calloway. She is survived by her three children Rae, Rhonda and Saunia and grandchildren Anne, Peter and David. Janice was much loved by all whom she came in touch with, especially her family. She will be greatly missed.

Cates, Mildred Louise 87, entered into her Heavenly Father's arms July 23, 2009. Generosity, a passionate faith and work ethic, commitment to family and a sense of style and grace defined her life. Mildred was a true southern lady born in Savannah, GA but grew up in New Smyrna Beach, FL the second oldest of six children. She met and married Thomas Willard Cates at age 21 to become the model naval aviator's wife and lived at military bases all over the country. She was a successful real estate salesperson then as a broker formed Millie Cates Realty in Falls Church, VA.

She lived in Virginia for 42 years and after her husband passed away moved to Phoenix in 2002 to be with her daughter and two granddaughters. Millie was a favorite among the numerous new friends she made at the Scottsdale Bible Church. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Dietrich, granddaughters Emily and Christina Dietrich, brothers J.B. and John McGeHee, sister Elizabeth Cowen and eleven nieces and nephews. We will all miss her but our lives have been immeasurably enriched knowing Millie.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 4:00 PM at the Scottsdale Bible Church Chapel, 7901 E. Shea Scottsdale, AZ 85260. Family Owned Colson, Albert H. left us the morning of July 22, 2009 to be with his wife of 64 years, Adma Nackard Colson and his son Phillip Colson.

Our beloved father was 90 years old and died peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side. He was native born to Frank and Gertrude Colson in Bisbee AZ. He served in the South Pacific in WW2. Al was unsurpassed in his architecture and building of commercial and fine custom homes, and the integrity he built them with. He always said "If you love the work you do, you will always be And he was.

He is greatly loved, respected and cherished by all who know him. God truly broke the mold when he made Albert Colson. He loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family and later in retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling with their, fellow RV'ers across the country. They also enjoyed their summer home in the pines at Kit Carson Park in Flagstaff. He is survived by his two daughters Marie Baker and Deborah Cargile, eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.

(623-972-4590) OBITUARIES Cross, James Russell Jim, 67, was born on June 25, 1942 to Russell and Margaret (Crawford) Cross in Phoenix, AZ. He passed away on July 23, 2009 after a long battle with lung cancer. Jim is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Connie (Gordon) Cross; his loving daughters, Stephanie (Bob) Abney, Lisa Cross and Megan (Bryan) Rhodes; his stepchildren, Doug Miller, Lori Dey, and Julie Mabry; and two sisters, Catherine Foote and Patricia Read-Schilling. In addition, he has seven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren plus two dogs and three cats.

Jim was a nationally renown expert on Hopi arts and culture and was involved in a Native-American Arts and Crafts busimost of his life. Jim was an avid reader and loved traveling with around the world discovering ancient cultures. He will be dearly by all. 51st Avenue. 74, of Scottsdale died on July 18, 2009. Judy was married 54 years to her husband Phil. They were born and married in Michigan. She was the mother of Kerry of Glendale, and Paul Davis and daughter-in-law Julie Peeples of Greensboro, NC and Grandmother of Scot, PJ, Meghan and Hannah.

She is also survived by her sister Helen and two brothers, Dan and Jim. There will be no services. Dick, Steven Standlee Sr. Davis, Judy Mr. Steven Standlee Dick passed July 20, 2009 in Durango, CO of cancer.

Born in Yuma, AZ on October 18, 1950, the son of Maxine McCain Dick and Samuel Dick Ill, he spent his last time in Durango, surrounded by family at their Falls Creek Ranch cabin, which he referred to as a place of solace where he relaxed with his mother, wife and sons. He attended Crane Elementary and Kofa High School, Yuma Valley, AZ, Northern Arizona University, BA, 1970, and Arizona State University, MBA, 1972. Steven was first married to Linda Lakey and divorced after 18 years and four children. His second marriage to his soul mate, Joan Heil, happened after 13 joyous years together, on November 23, 2004 at the Four Seasons Peninsula, Costa Rica. Steven was founder and President of Micon Consulting for 23 years.

He was an expert adviser to senior executives in the utility and public sector industries. He transformed the industry approach to business case development for large scale software system replacement. Prior to forming Micon, he was an Executive with Arthur Anderson for 11 years. He was a passionate family man and entrepreneur; an encouraging facilitator, fulfilling the dreams of his and others. He had an incredible work ethic, and he demonstrated genuine love and generosity to those with which he shared his life.

He derived these traits from growing up in a Yuma Valley family farming legacy, and he demonstrated them in all facets of his life. He was a skilled farmer and athlete, an unconditional father, a loving husband, astute businessman, and faithful friend. Steven was preceded in death by his Father, Samuel Dick IlI, Brother, Samuel Dick II, and two of his four Sons, Kyle Benjamin Dick and Alexander Patrick McCain. He is survived by his Mother, Maxine McCain Dick, Wife Joan Heil, Sons Steven Dick Jr. and Taylor McCain, Sister Lille Whitley and her husband Dwight "Skip" Whitley, Grandson Alexander McCain as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins.

Dignity Eldridge, Terrance 51, passed away on July 23rd, 2009. A 21-year resident of Mesa who was born in Phoenix, Terry leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Kris, and daughters Kate and Erin. The son of Robert and Ruth Eldridge of Scottsdale, Terry also leaves behind siblings Beverly Winter; Maureen Eldridge; Nancy (Keith) Markey; Timothy (Margaret) Eldridge; and Ann (Richard) Barker. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Eldridge, Jr. A gifted engineer and employee of General Dynamics in Tempe, Terry graduated with a PhD in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1985 following a B.S.

in engineering at Harvey Mudd College in 1980. His remarkable career involved work on a number of high-profile projects and allowed him to recently form a successful consulting business. Terry's employment over the years brought him to Boston; Batavia, Illinois (where he worked on the world's largest superconductor collider at Fermilab); California; and Arizona. Recent honors include the Technical Excellence Award for outstanding contributions as a one of the best and brightest at General Dynamics. Although he had a noteworthy career, Terry's most significant achievements came as a loving husband to Kris, extraordinary father to Kate and Erin, and dedicated friend to many.

Terry's family, friends, colleagues and neighbors always noted his gentleness, humor, kindness, reliability and genuineness of character. He effortlessly earned the respect of everyone he knew and influenced a wide range of people. He truly will be missed by everyone that his life touched. A celebration of Terry's life will be held Monday, July 27th at Red Mountain Church in Mesa, Arizona at 4:00 p.m., with a light meal to follow. Warren Anderson Crist Warren Anderson Crist passed away peacefully at home on July15, 2009 with family and friends at his side. He left us doing what he loved best, listening to jazz. Warren was born in Chicago, IL on April 23, 1945 the only son of Warren Seth Anderson and Barbara Houts Anderson. Following his father's death in World War II, he was blessed when his mother married Robert C.

Crist III who welcomed him as his own. Warren was an avid sports fan excelling in a number of sports as a youth. He spent his professional life in the financial services industry following his graduation from the University of Arizona in 1969. A man for all seasons, Warren enjoyed wonderful friendships with people from all walks of life. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Jane, his brother Robert C.

Crist IV (Bonnie), sister Josephine Kirk, and six nieces and nephews. A celebration of Warren's life is being planned for August 25, 2009 at the Ritz Carlton Phoenix from P.M. SUNDAY, JULY 26, 2009 B7 Fargotstein, Ralph MD for a age 93, a 47 year resident of Scottsdale has joined his wife Dottie, who preceded him in death. Ralph died at home on July 22, 2009 amongst family he loved and who loved him. During the months and weeks prior to his death, his children and grandchildren spent many weekends with him sharing memories, laughter, and some tears. Ralph was born April 17, 1916, in Pittsburg, PA. to Anna and Joseph Fargotstein.

Following his studies at the University of Pittsburg, that included a stint in the marching band, he went on to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri from which he graduated in 1944. After a few years in general practice he returned to St. Louis where he completed a residency in pathology. Ralph had three loved in his life- medicine, Dottie, and his family.

He married Dottie in 1943 and they their family of five children: Barbara, John and his life partner Phyllis, Phillip (Karen), Joseph (Lisa), and Katherine. Ralph served in the USN medical corps during both WWII and the Korean conflict. Upon discharge from military service he began his career as a pathologist as Director of Laboratories in hospitals from California to Michigan and Colorado to Arizona. In his role as director in these different settings he was an innovator through his introduction of computers to laboratory medicine and was a model for excellence in practice. This excellence was recognized by the Commission on Inspection and Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists when the laboratory at St.

Luke's Hospital in Phoenix, under his direction, was described as one of the finest ever seen by the members of the commission. Ralph retired as Director of Laboratories at St. Luke's in 1988 but didn't go quietly into that retirement. He remained active in computer groups, photography, and organ lessons. His love of learning even led him to take flight school.

He believed in the importance of learning and striving for excellence in all that he did -personally and professionally- and he passed this value on to his children and much loved grandchildren: Kristine, Matthew, Kirsten, and Kristofer. His was a life well lived and he will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26th at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale.

14, 1940, Tempe, AZ. Lived two years in Eager, AZ, 46 years in Fredonia, AZ, and 15 years in Annabella, UT. Dad died Nov. 3, 2002, and then Mom moved to Cottonwood, AZ in 2003. Mom planted trees (on the cheap) wherever she lived.

She learned how to control gophers with a shovel! Mom had many callings in the LDS Church. Survived by Adele (Richard) Dorsey, Patricia Nicks, Bess (Tom) Christensen, David (Elaine) Farr and Jon Farr. Also siblings, Bob (Glenell) Fuller, Clifford (Carolyn) Fuller, Esther Dial, Helen (Kerry) Frost and Glenda Fuller. Proceeded in death by Lorin Myles Farr Ill (oldest child); brothers and sister, Gerald and Milton Fuller and Madge Fuller Shelley. In respect of Mom's wishes, there will be no funeral.

Fox, Angelita C. 56, of Glendale, AZ was taken for a higher calling by the hand of God on Wednesday, July 22, 2009. Angie was born in Lubbock, TX but resided most of her life in Arizona. After her courageous 6 year battle with cancer, she joins her sister Lisa and Father Benny in Heaven. Angie was a high spirited individual who appreciated all the simple things in life.

One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with those she loved most. Angie was a devoted mother, wife and friend. She will be deeply missed. Angie is survived by her mother, Pascuala, husband, Keith, son, Michael his Tina, daughter, Ana her husband Mike along with 3 beloved grandchildren, Sammy, Allen Bayleigh. Angie also leaves behind 3 brothers 1 sister along with a large extended family.

Angie leaves a close circle of friends including Barb, Kelly Mercy who stuck by her side through it all. During the toughest times of her life, Angie was also graced with 4 little furry angels who will miss her deeply, Maggie, Gizmo, Dakota Winston. HERITAGE 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family July 22, 2009. She was born June 23, 1925 in McNary, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband George "Milt" Fort, her sister Myrna Abel and brother Norman Stratton. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Milton (Elaine) Fort, Lynette (Mike deceased) Rose, Valerie (Mark) Weight, Kenneth (Sharon) Fort and Stephen (Pam) Fort. Helen is also loved by 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Plunkett Ill, who passed away on October 15, 2007. After graduating from Creighton Law School he became Vice President of the student body of Creighton University. He attended St.

Thomas Military Academy in Minnesota where he was the Speaker of the Crack Drill Squad. He passed the Bar and practiced law as an Attorney in Minnesota and Arizona and worked for J.E. Murphy Company American Summit Insurance Company. Sean was involved in many charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. With his unexpected passing to eternal life, we wish him Godspeed.
