ELVA S. SHOLES Elva Spurlock Sholes passed away March 9, 1998 at the age of 106. Mrs. Sholes was born December 31, 1891 in Ava, Missouri to J. Wilburn and Linda Duren Spurlock.

He was born June 28, 1923 in Campbell, NE. He was the fourth and youngest child of William Ross Brooks Ella Skjelver Brooks. He was raised in McPherson, KS and graduated 2nd in his class from McPherson High School in June of 1941. He immediately enlisted in the Navy and served in the South Pacific aboard the cruiser Columbia during the war. With high scores on Naval aptitude tests, he enrolled in college by way of the Navy's Officer Training Candidate Program.

I He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Kansas and was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1948. He had a brief tour of duty in Washington, D.C., where he married Nancy Elaine Cook of Lawrence, K.S. He served again in the Pacific during the Korean Conflict. In 1957 he received a Masters Degree in physics from Stanford University.

He finished his Naval career at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis teaching Physics, before retiring in July 1963. He relocated his family to Virginia and began his second career in the fiela of systems analysis with the Mitre Corporation TRW. He retired from his second career in 1986, about the time of his wife's death. Frank married Barbara Trice of Fairfax in July of 1991 and together they retired to Chandler in July of 1992.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, his brother William Robert Brooks of Council Bluffs, IA; two sons Frederick Gregory of Fairfax, VA; four stepchildren: Cynthia, Stephanie, David and Mark; and seven grandsons.
