James "Jim" Kevin Miller, 48, of Phoenix AZ, passed away February 27, 2001. Jim was born in Waterloo, Iowa and moved to Phoenix in 1965. He was a member of the Masonic Jonell Spillman, 74, of Phoenix AZ, passed away March 2, 2001. Born August 28, 1926 in ConwelL Missouri, Jonell was retired. She is survived by her sons, Joe Harold Mason of Pinetop AZ and Mike Spillman of Phoenix; two grandchildren and four' great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 3rd from l-4pm at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Bethany Chapel, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd. Graveside services wil be on Monday, March 5th at at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6290 W. Northern Glendale.

YANKUS, Marguerite Agnes Kehoe Robert H. ('Bob') Kieckhefer, passed away at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix on February 26, 2001 in the company of his wife, Audrey, his four children and their spouses. Mr. Kieckhefer resided in Arizona for 65 years, having moved to Oracle, Arizona, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1935. Bob and his wife Virginia 'Dudie' Ott moved to the K4 Ranch north of Prescott in 1940 and subsequently moved to Prescott where he has maintained a residence.

His wife, Dudie, died in 1985. In 1995 he was married to Audrey Cox of Orange County, California. He is survived by his son, John, three daughters Nancy, Katherine and Susan, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Mr. Kieckhefer was an officer and director of the Kieckhefer Container Company and Eddy Paper Company and was instrumental in these companies becoming the largest manufacturers of the then innovative paper milk carton which serves as a standard for milk containers to this day.

These two companies were merged with Weyerhaeuser Company in 1957. Mr. Kieckhefer served as a member of the Board of Directors of Weyerhaeuser Company for 33 years until his retirement at age 72 and was a member of the Executive Committee of Weyerhaeuser for more than 25 years. He was recognized as a leader of the paper and forest products industry. He also pursued a wide variety of additional business and investment interests.

His interest in. horses began with the desire to improve the working horses at the K4 Ranch where he managed the herds of registered and commercial Hereford cattle. He remained interested in the current livestock operations of his son, John, on the K4 Ranch lands. His interest in horses expanded over time to include well known show and racing stock. He continued racing both quarter horses and thoroughbreds to the time of his death.

He served as president and as a director of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) and was past chairman of the AQHA Judges Committee. He also served as a director and member of the Executive Committee of the Arizona Quarter Horse Breeders Association and as. a Director of the Arizona Thoroughbred Breeders Association. He served as chairman and as a member of the Arizona Racing Commission. Prior to his service on the Arizona Racing Commission he had been a director of the Yavapai County Fair Association for more than 20 years and was a member of the Executive Committee of this organization for many years.

He was a trustee of the American Horse Council and served as chairman of the Arizona Governor's Blue Ribbon Committee on Racing and Pari-mutuel Wagering. He also served as a member of the Department of Economic Planning and Development of the State of Arizona and was a trustee of the Committee for Eqpnomic Development (CED) of New York, New York. He was a member and served as captain of the Yavapai County Mounted Sheriffs Posse and was honored by being appointed co-Grand Marshal of the Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo Parade in 1999 as one of two surviving original members of the Posse. Mr. Kieckhefer was widely known for his philanthropic interests on a national basis and was a founding trustee of the J.

W. Kieckhefer Foundation, an Arizona charitable trust. He has been a member of the congregation of St. Luke's Episcopal Church at Prescott since the early 1940s and served the church for a number of years as a vestryman. He was a long time member of the Smoki People and the Elks Club of Prescott.

He was very instrumental in the founding of the original Prescott Downs which was the basis for the success of the racing program of the Yavapai County Fair Association. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Robert H. Kieckhefer Fund at the Arizona Community Foundation, 2122 E. Robert "Bob" Bauer, age 54, of Peoria Arizona, passed away February 28, 2001. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. Memorial Service on Saturday, March 3, 2001, at 2:00 P.M. at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Messinger Indian Schol Scottsdale, AZ.

Arrangements handled by Messinger Indian School Mortuary Ruth Esparza Becerra, 64, of Phoenix AZ, passed away February 27, 2001. Ruth was born on January 2, 1937. She was a Homemaker a member of the Sacred Heart Church. Survivors include her sisters Julie Esparza Connie Mendina; several nieces and nephews. Henry Joseph Carter, 82, of Phoenix AZ, passed away February 27, 2001. Services have been held. Arrangements through Shadow Mountain Mortuary, Phoenix. Ilia Alice Cowie-Freitas, passed away Feb. 28, 2001.

Born Feb. 11, 1912 in Vancouver WA, she was a retired registered nurse and school teacher who earned her nursing degree from Emanuel Hospital in Portland OR and her Masters Degree in Education from Grand Canyon University. She worked for several years at Vancouver Memorial and John C. Lincoln hospitals and was a school nurse at Carson Jr. High and Isaac Imes Elementary.

She taught school at Black Canyon Elementary. She was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Rogue River OR, Community Church of Black Canyon City and was a member of the choir group She is survived by sons: David Cowie of Black Canyon City, Steven Cowie of Chandler, Gerald Cowie of Grants Pass OR; daughter, Joan Ford of Rogue River OR; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter, Anita; her first husband, Marshall Cowie; and second husband, Izaias Freitas. Survivors include her companion Daniel DeMat-teo; daughter, Briaane Nicole Fernandez, two sons, Art Orlando Tameron Michael Anthony Fernandez III, her mother, Alice Urquieta, her sister, Rachael and husband Tony Bisanz, two brothers, Mario D. She moved to Phoenix at age 11. She graduated from Phoenix Union High School. Married in 1949 she moved to Tolleson, AZ to raise her family. Active in church and community, she was loved and respected by all who knew her. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband: Ellwood; sons: David and Bobby; daughter: Cora Lynn; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 2 more to be born later this year.

Iris was God's gift to us all and an angel here on earth. She will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 4, 2001 at Com. United' Methodist Church, 104 W.

Ralph Louis Oppido, 80, of Sun Lakes AZ, passed away February 27, 2001. Edna Dean (Gran, Granny) Owens, age 92, of Phoenix Arizona, passed away February 28, 2001. She was born in Henrietta, Oklahoma. She was a loving, devoted mother and grandmother and is considered by many to be a builder of families -believing that 'blood is everything'. Edna's family is very proud of her history and accomplishments. We consider her an Arizona Pioneer arriving at the young age of 6 in 1914 (2 years after Arizona achieved Statehood).

She grew up in Scottsdale on a family farm located at Camelback and Brown Roads (now the Indian Bend Park area). As a young girl and woman, she had a varied life. She was a graduate of Tempe Normal (now Arizona State University). Edna spent a few years teaching at Scottsdale High School until she married and started her family of four. She enjoyed outdoor activities and would often recount her time spent playing tennis and Softball.

Some of her various business activities include: A time when she baled hay at farms West of Phoenix not weighing more than 115 pounds, she loaded bales that were well over 110 pounds. Endeavors also include operation of a dairy, farming and ranching. In her late forties, Edna began her Mill working career by building wooden crates for jet engine parts during the Korean War for Air Research. Edna and Herb Owens Sr. formed Owens Millwork and for more than 30 years, built custom furniture and cabinets in the Valley.

She retired from Owens Millwork in her late seventies. Later in life, she grew beautiful roses and other flowers refusing to grow vegetables because she had to do so during the depression. All who knew and loved her will sorely miss Edna. Survivors include her children, Herb Owens, D'Alva O. Fulgham, Richard Owens and Tom Owens; grandchildren, Chris Owens, Hal Owens, Michelle Owens, Matt Owens, Craig Fulgham, Mark Fulgham, Kevin Owens, Cory Owens, Erin Owens Hall; great grandchildren, Derek Fulgham, Evan Fulgham, Ben Owens, Hal William Owens, Jenna Owens.

He was retired from Goodyear Aerospace after 32 years. Clarence, a devoted Christian, loved working with children with their school work and Bible Quiz. Ruth Gross, age 78, passed away March 2, 2001 in Phoenix, AZ. She was born in New York City and moved to Sun City 17 years ago. She was a member of Beth Emeth Congregation of Sun City West, a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy, and a member of Northwest Valley Jewish 'War Veterans Post 303. She was a life member of Hadassah and a member of ORT. Survivors include her husband Lawrence J.

of Sun City, sons Irving of West Haven, CT and Jeffrey of Brooklyn, N.Y. One grandchild also survives. Funeral services and interment were held Friday, March 2nd in Sun City. Leona J. Stone, 64, of Phoenix, died Feb. 23, 2001. She was born Sept. 10, 1936 in Oak Park, IL.

Survivors include her brother, Dr. Thomas L. Stone of Stelle, IL, her brother David N. Stone (Jill) of McHenry, IL, her sister-in-law, Earlene Stone (Robert 1929-2000) of Phoenix, her niece, Gail Stone of Phoenix, her niece, Laura Stone of Glen Ellyn, IL, her Alisa Stone of Iowa City, IA, her, nephew, David Stone of Stelle, IL, her nephew, Matthew Stone (Kimberly) of Woodstock, IL and her nephew Mark Stone (Cathey) of Honolulu, HI. She was actively employed at Good Samaritan Medical Center and Phoenix Children's Hospital for 17 years.

Arrangements handled by. Bunker's Desert View Chapel, Mesa. Frederic Lyle Thompson, of Phoenix, passed away Feb. 27th after a long illness. A lifetime resident of Phoenix, he was known to his large number of family and friends as Freddy.

Freddy had a true gift, an ability to make one smile and immediately lift one's spirit. Preceeded in death by bis father, Leon and his sister, Yvonne; he leaves three children: Trenisha, Devon, Carrie. Other survivors include his mother, Jane; brothers Leon, Stephen Nolan; and sister Sheron, as well as a host of nieces, nephews cousins. Visitation was held March 2 at Botimer Chapel; Mass will be said March 3rd at 12pm at Our Lady of Fatima, Church, 1418 S. 17th Ave.

In lieu of flowers, dona tions may be made to the Holmes Boys Girls Club, 1601 W. Sherman, Phx. Norman Turley, 73, of Holbrook Arizona, passed away February 28, 2001. Visitation one hour prior to services at the Church. Services 10:00 AM Sat.

March 3rd at the Holbrook Stake Center, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Daniel Weekes Twitchell was born in Phoenix, Arizona 2 August 1919. He was 81' years of age. He attended Emerson Grade School and graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1937. He was active in football basketball and was a 4 yr.

Upon returning home he worked for 27 years for' Phoenix Elementary 1 in the maintenance department. He was active in Cub Scouts, Little League and all family sports, is a 50 year member of Arizona Lodge 2 and A.M and a life long member of Trinity Cathedral. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons, Wirt, Dan, David, Bill and Tom; daughters, Mary Good and Jeanne Wiensch and 13 grandchildren.
