Among the carnival attractions will be the third annual exhibition of the Arizona Poultry, Pigeon and Pet Stock association. Mr. Dave Goldberg left on Saturday night for Jerome to look after his business interests in that city.

While he is in the big mining camp he will boom the I carnival and make arrangements for running a special excursion train. He will use his best blandishments to- i ward securing a cessation of work as 1 far as possible at the smelters, so that I everybody can come to the carnival 1 who so desires. I DEATH OF GEORGE B. BRYANT. News has been received of the death of George B.

Bryant at Safford, Ariz. Mr. Bryant was about 27 years of age and came to Phoenix four years ago from Rhode Island. He was employed for some time in the hardware store of E. W.

Thayer of this city, and during his residence here made many friends who will mourn his untimely end. He leaves a sister, -Miss Bryant, who is a resident of this city. A NEW WAREHOUSE. The foundation is being laid for the new De-Mund warehouse on Jackson street. between Third and Fourth avenues.

It will be a brick structure of large dimensions, reaching almost the length of a block. A yard switch will run by the building to facilitate the handling of freight and the immense I piles of rock, brick and other material now on the ground indicates that the ork is to be rapidly pushed. WINTER VS. SUMMER. A fair sized crowd attended the band concert yesterday afternoon, eliciting a remark from a bystander to the effect that the Phoenix public regards a Sunday evening concert with greater favor than one occurring in daylight hours Nevertheless, if the concerts were to be held at night during the winter season, the attendance would of necessity greatly diminish as compared with evening concerts during the summer.

A GUESSING CONTEST. Dame Rumor, that mysterious old lady of whom every one has heard, but no one has seen, is responsible for the statement that one of the confirmed old bachelors of Phoenix is soon to be wedded to a handsome young lady. The match, from all accounts, will be a most excellent one. The groom has lived here for a number of years and in addition to being a successful business man, has held public office at various times. All guesses on the sub- pect of the identity of this soon-to-be happy couple, if promptly forwarded i to The Republican, will receive due I consideration and as in the game of "Button, button, who's got the button?" the guesser will be told whether he is "hot" or "cold." PLANNING A WORK OF ART.

Louis Riche, a French chef who has delighted the palates of Phoenix people in times past and who is now conducting an automobile lunch counter, is engaged in planning an exhibition piece of candy and nuts for the Christ mas season. The piece will be nearly two feet high and will require five or six pounds of nuts of various kinds, eight or ten pounds of sugar and an almost equal number of pounds of candy. It will be somewhat after the design of a pagoda and when com- In Responding to a Thanksgiving Invitallon you will feel thankful enough, with visions of turkey and good things to make merry on before you, to honor your prospective host by writing on the most fashionable and high class stationery that you can and which you will find in all the latest tints and shades of color and texture at The Phoenix Stationery News Co 10.12 Ti. FOR MAIDS OF HONOR. The various counties of the territory are busily engaged in electing maids of honor for the coming carnival. In Yavapai county the balloting will cease on Thanksgiving eve. In Gila county a choice has already been made but the result is as yet unknown here. On this subject the last issue of the Globe Times says: "Julian Millard was here' during the past week and succeeded in arousing quite an interest.

A number of our business men took kindly to the proposition to have Gila county represented at the carnival by maid of honor, and arranged a voting contest which opened Monday morning and will close this evening, when a dance will be given at Odd Fellows' hall. The vote last night stood: Miss Lucy Merritt, 22G; Miss Maud Kenyon, 1.13; Miss Fannie Davidson, and a few scattering." BICYCLE RACK The need of a bicycle rack at the Central school building is becoming more urgent each day, it is said. Some one who has observed the growth of the bicycle habit among the "pupils attending the Central school says it is really remarkable. A few years ago very few bicycles were used by the pupils. Now there are over a hundred of them and as the school board has not provided a rack for their safe keeping the pupils are compelled to stack their wheels promiscuously on all sides of the building.

The result is that bicycles are constantly, getting damaged. entailing expense upon those owning them. A rack would not only be an inexpensive improvement, but is badly needed. It would pay the school trustees to visit the Central school some day and see for themselves the status of the bicycle question. INCREASING ATTENDANCE.

There is a well founded suspicion that although the frost has not appeared on the pumpkin in this and the corn is r.ot in the shock, the youthful mind has seized on the fact thai Christmas time is rapidly aproaching and that it he wants to get a sack of candy and a popcorn ball at the Christmas tree entertainment it behooves him to promptly enroll in ihe marcst Sunday school. On no other hypothesis can the alarming increase in Sunday school attendance during the past two or three Sundays be accounted for. The Republican last week chronicled the fact that Cue Presbyterian Sunday school had persons at its session. The attendance yes- terdav had increased to 24. Other Sunday schools report similar in- creases, making the largest enroll- ments in their nisiory.

For some unknown reason the bill boards did not announce this great spectacular performance and The Republican's base ball reporter being out with his girl no detailed report of the game can be giv.n. General results, however, were nt into this office and are interesting. There was a large attendance of boys and little boys and all brought their lungs with them.

The rooting was scientific in point of volume and seriously disturbed the minor measures of the band concert's music some three blocks away. But the band did not care as they have glory enough any way, and beside, all the nicely dressed ladies attended their show, the base ball grand stand was with horrid tobacco-chewing mer At the end of the nini inning the score as handed in, stood "six to six in favor of both sides." 1 A representative of the Keynolds-Kaston company, Dayton, Ohio, manufacturers of the celebrated Duck's Back Waterproof decorations, can be found at Buxton's and will be pleased to make suggestions as to the most effective way of using the Banners.
