The Arizona Republic XO Phoenix, Feb. 7, 1970 RAPEDLIG CITY Obituaries Mrs. Winchell dies; services set Monday SCOTTSDALE Private services for Mrs. June M. Winchell, 64, wife of retired newspaper columnist and newscaster Walter Winchell, will be held Monday in Messinger Mortuary, 515 E.

Indian School. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Winchell died of a heart condition Thursday in Rudolph Monreal Rosary for Rudolph B. Monreal, 54,, who died Thursin Luke's Hospital, will be recited at 8 p.m.

tomorrow in Mortensen-Kings Funeral Center, 1020 W. Washington. Funeral Mass will be said at. 9:30 a.m. Monday in St.

Catherine's Catholic Church, 6045 S. Central. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Mr.

Monreal, 1721 E. Pecan, had been a warehouseman the past 30 years for the Arizona Seed and Grain Co. He was born in Phoenix. Survivors include his wife, Carmen; a daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Boulden; a son, Rudolph and two sisters, Arsenia and Josephina Monreal, all of Phoenix; a sister of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.

Laura Haozous SAFFORD Services for Mrs. Laura Haozous, 38, who was killed Saturday in an auto accident, will be at 3 p.m. today at the San Carlos Elementary School auditorium. Burial will be in the San Carlos Cemetery. Mrs.

Haozous was chairman of the Parents Advisory Council for Operation Headstart. She was also president of the San Carlos 4H Clubs and past president of the San Carlos Hospital Auxiliary. A registered nurse who graduated from the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, Phoenix, Mrs. HaoZOUS was employed by the U.S. Public Health Service Clinic.

Survivors include her husband, tribal councilman Hampton; eight children, Rachel, Leslie and Cecil, Sandra, Patricia, Carol, Cherril and Laura Kay, and seven brothers. St. Luke's Hospital, She had been Ill two weeks. Mrs. Winchell, 6116 Yucca, moved here 15 years ago from Scarsdale, N.Y.

Born in Mississippi, she was an actress when she married Winchell in 1923. The Winchells maintained residences in Scarsdale and Manhattan until they purchased their Scottsdale home. They recently sold their New York home to reside permanently in Scottsdale. In addition to her husband, other survivors are a daughter, Mira. Walda Von Dehn of Los Angeles; a sister, Mrs.

Mary M. Mayor of Manhattan, and three grandchildren. Friends may call at the mortuary until noon tomorTOw. Esther Johnson Mrs. Esther Margaret Johnson, 62, who had taught elementary school three years in Calamus, Iowa, before moving to Phoenix in 1930, died Thursday in Good Samaritan Hospital.

Mrs. Johnson, 3136 N. 38th was a member of Mount of Olives Lutheran Church. She was born in Iowa. Survivors include her husband, Arthur; two sons, the Rev.

Bertrand Johnson, Lutheran chaplain at Arizona State University, and Alan of Phoenix; a sister of Seal Beach, and six grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in of Olives Lutheran "Church, 3545 E. Thomas. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Paradise Chapel announced.

Hortense Jacobs GLOBE Services for Hortense B. Jacobs, 58, who died yesterday morning in Gila General Hospital, will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Walker's Globe Mortuary with cremation to follow. Born in Globe, Miss Jacobs had lived here all her life except for the years she worked as a practical nurse in San Francisco. She was a member of Globe Chapter.

27 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Jacobs of Globe, and her brother, Lionel of Tucson. Brewer, 89, Pinedale pioneer, dies SHOW LOW Services for Mrs. Lucretia Annetta Brewer, 89, who died Tuesday in Josephine Goldwater Hospital here, will be at today in the Snowflake Second Ward Chapel the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be in the Pinedale Cemetery. Born in Orderville, Utah, Mrs. Brewer came to Arizona when she was 8 and lived in Woodruff and Snowflake until Edna Knauerhaze PARADISE VALLEY Services for Mrs.

Edna Emily Knauerhaze, 71, who died yesterday in Scottsdale Baptist Hopital, will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Mercer Mortuary, 1541 E. Thomas, Phoenix. Mrs. Knauerhaze, 7300 E.

Sage Drive, moved here in 1967 from Blue Island, where she was a member of a Methodist church and a Rebekah lodge. She was born in Chicago. Survivors include her husband, Edmund; a daughter, Mrs. Elaine Zuhn; and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Katz, all of Paradise Valley; a sister of Chicago; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Burial place will be announced. Gladys Storms Mrs. Gladys Storms, 71, a retired practical nurse who moved here in 1961 from Baltimore, died Thursday in a Phoenix hospital. Mrs. Storms, 925 E.

Granada, was born in Montgomery County, and had worked in nursing homes at Baltimore. Survivors include her husband, Douglas; two sons, Douglas Jr. and Paul; three brothers and two sisters, all of Maryland; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N.

Hayden, Scottsdale. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery. James S. Bibb WINSLOW Services for James S. Bibb, 59, who died Tuesday in Winslow Memorial Hospital, will be at 2 p.m, Monday at Scott Chapel here.

Burial will be in Desert View Cemetery. Born in Texas, Mr. Bibb came to Arizona in 1934. He was owner and operator of Bibb's Welding and Garage here until ill health forced his retirement a few years ago. Survivors include three brothers and one sister out of state.

Mildred Spong SCOTTSDALE Mrs. Mildred Atchison Spong, 59, a registered pharmacist and substitute teacher in the Scottsdale school system, died yesterday in Scottsdale Baptist Hospital, Mrs. Spong, 7322 E. Cypress, graduated from Ottawa University in Ottawa, in 1932. She moved to Scottsdale in 1962 from Stafford, Kan.

She was born in Richmond, Kan. She was a member of the Scottsdale Presbyterian Church and the PEO Sisterhood. Survivors include her husband, Clarence; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Reid of Greenwood, two sons, Donald, a student at the University of Arizona, and Kenneth, a student at the University of Kansas at Lawrence, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Fred Bailey of Phoenix; and a grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the church, 3421 N. Hayden. Friends may call after 6 p.m today in Messinger Mortuary, 515 E. Indian School.

Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery, The family has established a memorial fund in her name at the Scottsdale Presbyterian Church. Doris Reineking SCOTTSDALE Services for Mrs. Doris Reineking, 51, who died Thursday in Phoenix General Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden.

Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery. Mrs. Reineking, 7660 E. Van Buren, had been employed the past 18 months by the Super Drug Store in Tempe. Born in Iowa, she came to Tucson in 1961 and lived in Scottsdale since 1967.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin; a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Ross; and her mother, Mrs. Abbie Dovey, all of Scottsdale: and a son. Keith of Tacoma, a brother, Lloyd Dovey of Satlord: a broth ol Michigan, Clare Herbert Leet Clare Herbert Leet. 67, a retired chef who moved here 28 years ago from his native Loveland, died yesterday in Phoenix Baptist Hospital.

her parents moved to Pinedale, where they homesteaded. She married William Rufus Brewer in 1897 in Pinedale. She was active in the LDS church and was president of the Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Relief Society. Survivors include four sons, William C. of Phoenix, Lee of Snowflake, Max of Show Low and Gilbert of four daughters, Mrs.

Waggoner of Phoenix, Mrs. Charlotte Shumway of Mesa and Mrs. Ruby, Stock and Mrs. Esther Hall, both of Show Low; two brothers, Henry Webb of Lakeside and Sidney Webb of Mesa; five sisters, Mrs. Estelle Thomas of Pinedale, Mrs.

Cordelia Taylor and Mrs. Martha Williams, both of Mesa, and two sisters out of state; and 45 grandchildren and 93 great-grandchildren. Ovila Lettre Ovila Emile Lettre, 55, who was assistant manager of the Fox Theater from 1947 to 1952 and manager of the Vista Theater from 1952 to 1955, died Thursday in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr.

Lettre, 211 N. 13th moved here in 1947 from his native Berlin, N.H. Survivors include four brothers and six sisters, all of Berlin. The family suggests Mass offerings or cards to Eugenia Lettre, 456 School Berlin, N.H. Services and burial will be in Berlin, Whitney, and Murphy Funeral Home announced.

William R. Kelsay William Ross Kelsay, 73, a former dental laboratory technician, who retired in 1968, died yesterday in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Kelsay, 2442 E. Mitchell Drive, moved here in 1921 from Kansas City.

He was born in Bagnell, Mo. He was a member of a Lions Club and Morningside Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Edith; a daughter, Mrs. Peggy Garvin of Moraga, three sons, Ross and Richard, both of Phoenix and William of California; two sisters and five brothers out of state; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m.

Monday in the church, 20th Street and Roosevelt. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. tomorrow in A. L. Moore and Sons Mortuary, 333 W.

Adams. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Ada Morgan Graveside rites for Mrs. Ada L. Morgan, 61, who died Wednesday in a Phoenix hospital, will be at 1 p.m.

Monday in Double Butte Cemetery, Tempe. A. L. Moore and Sons Mortuary made arrangements. Mrs.

Morgan, 2429 W. Mohave, was born in Portland, and moved to Phoenix in 1961 from San Francisco. Survivors include her husband, George M. Lucy Padilla Rosary for Mrs. Lucy C.

Padilla, 73, who died Thursday in Memorial Hospital, will be recited at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow in Whitney and Murphy Chapel, 330 N. Second Ave. Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in St.

Anthony's Catholic Church, 909 S. First Ave. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Mrs.

Padilla, 330 W. Culver, moved to Phoenix two years ago from her native Concho in Apache County. Survivors include two sons, Silver a and Fred; two daughters, Mrs. Lucy Ceballos and Mrs. Mary Perea; and a brother, Romolo, all of Phoenix; 26 grandchildren and 13 great Rose Davis Mrs Rose Mary Davis, 61, who had been employed the past 10 years at Maryvale Hospital, died Thursday in Good Samaritan Hospital.

Mrs. Davis, 6442 W. Picadilly, was born in Omaha and came to Phoenix in 1953. She was a member of the Catholic Church. Survivors include a sister, Mrs.

Frances Losole; and a brother, Don Bruno, both of Omaha. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in A. L. Moore and Sons Mortuary, 333 W.

Adams. Graveside rites will be at 9 a.m. Monday 11 Greenwood Cemetery, A 1. Mr. Leet, 2709 W.

Taylor, was a veteran of both World Wars, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elks, Woodmen of the World, and the Phoenix First Foursquare Gospel Church. He had been a chef at Luke AFB. Survivors include a son, Robert Gleeson of Phoenix. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N.

27th Ave. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery. Mary Davis Funeral Mass for Mrs. Mary K. Davis, 82, who died yesterday in Phoenix Baptist Hospital, will be said 8:45 a.m.

Monday in St. Jerome's Catholic Church, 3450 W. Desert Cove. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home announced. Mrs.

Davis, 8849 N. 40th was born in Genesee, and moved here in 1 1963 from Jamestown, N.Y. She was a former physical education supervisor in Jamestown. Survivors include her husband, Frederick and a brother, Harold P. Kane of Phoenix.

Edith Hower Graveside rites for Mrs. Edith M. Hower, 69, will be at 11:30 a.m, today in Memory Lawn Cemetery, 719 N. 27th Ave. Mortensen-Kings Funeral Center made arrangements.

Mrs. Hower, a longtime resident of Phoenix until she moved to Cathedral in 1963, died Wednesday in Palm Springs, Calif. She was born in Tennessee. Survivors include a son, Ernest Horton, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Murley, both of Phoenix; and four grandsons.

Silas Wolcott Silas E. Wolcott, 81, who had been an electrician, 16 years for National Register Co. in Dayton, Ohio, died yesterday in Doctors Hospital. Mr. Wolcott, 4139 E.

McDowell, was born in Tidioute, and came to Phoenix in 1958 from Dayton. He was a member of a Masonic lodge in Hominy, where he was an oil well driller. Survivors include his wife, Grace; a brother and two sisters out of state. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Green Acres Mortuary 401 N.

Hayden, Scottsdale, with a Masonic funeral committee assisting. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery. Herbert Stanley Herbert L. Stanley, 86, a former manufacturer's representative, who came to Phoenix 29 years ago from Des Moines, died Thursday in Waitwell Nursing Home. Mr.

Stanley, 722 E. Rose Lane, was a member of a Masonic lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Shrine, all of Des Moines. He was born in Columbus, Iowa. Survivors include a nephew, Dean Stanley of Smithtown, N.Y. Services will be at 11a.m.

Monday in Mercer Mortuary, 1541 E. Thomas. Burial will be in Glendale Resthaven Cemetery, Lawrence Seymour Lawrence T. Seymour, 47 a self-employed watch repairman, died yesterday in his home, 2832 W. Missouri.

Mr. Seymour was born in Delphos, Ohio, and moved here i in 1954. A veteran of World War IT, he was a mem-. ber of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Larry and Kenneth; two daughters, Nancy Seymour and Mrs.

John Leach, all of Phoenix; a brother and a sister out of state. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Grimshaw's Bethany Chapel, 710 W. Bethany home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Minerva Trumbly Minerva Trumbly Mrs. Minerva "Mimi" Trumbly, 65, who was graduated from the Chicago College of Music and was an opera singer 20 years with the Chicago Opera died Thursday in her home, 1212 W. Bethany Home. Mrs. Trumbly was born in Gridley, and moved here in 1964 from Evanston, Ill.

She used the name Yvonne Ray when she sang on Radio WGN in Chicago. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Camille Kuhn of Phoenix and Mrs. Yvonne Sterner of Granada Hills, her mother, Mrs. Maude Young; and a sister, Mrs.

Bernice Sommer, both of Phoenix; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Grimshaw's Bethany Chapel, 710 W. Bethany Home. Cremation will follow.

Jerry Lee Stangle Rosary for Jerry Lee Stangle, 27, a driver for the Fred Hurley Trucking will be recited at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in Grimshaw's Bloom Chapel, 3800 S. Central. Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in St.

Mary's Catholic Church, 231 N. Third St. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Mr.

Stangle was born in Vincennes, moved to Phoenix in 1946 and lived the past four years in Miami. He died of hepatitis Wednesday in Miami. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; two sons, Michael and Danny, all of Miami; his mother, Mrs. Grace Stangle; his father, Lawrence "Connie" Stangle and a sister, Mrs. Patricia Haig, all of Phoenix.

Ellen Krueger Services for Mrs. Ellen N. Krueger, 32, who died Thursday in Lincoln Hospital, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 3030 E.

Mrs. Krueger, 2223 E. Delgado, was born in Riverton, and came to Phoenix 21 years ago. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Christine; and a son, David, all of Phoenix; her father, Porter Chopping of Riverton; her mother, Mrs. Xenia Green of Amarillo, Tex; and a brother out of state.

Evelyn Gardner Services for Mrs. Evelyn J. Gardner, 58, will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the First Institutional Baptist Church, 1141 E. Jefferson.

Friends may call from 2 to 10 p.m. tomorrow in Webber and Sons Mortuary, 1641 E. Jefferson. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs.

Gardner, 4418 S. 19th died Wednesday in Tempe Community Hospital. Born in Lake Village, she came to Phoenix 20 years ago from Illinois. Survivors include her husband, Napoleon; a daughter, Mrs. G.

Mimes; and her mother, Mrs. Mary Casey, both of St. Louis; and five grandchildren. Clarence W. Turner C.

W. Turner in Phoenix since 1958 Clarence Wilbur Turner, 72, who came to Phoenix in 1958 and owned and operated the Twin Gable apartments until he retired, died Thursday in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Turner, 3315 E. Hubbell, had been employed 10 years by the Union Pacific and owned an interior decorating business before moving to Phoenix from Kansas City.

He WAS a member of the Christian Church. He WAS born in Dearborn, Mo. Survivors include a son, Charles W. of Phoenix; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Kardell of Phoenix and Mrs.

Patricia Hjalmarson Tempe; three brothers out of state; seven grandchildren two great grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave. Burial will be private.

Rulia Singh GLENDALE Rulia Singh, 93, a fa farmer who came to Glendale in 1935 from Imperial Valley, died yesterday in Mountain View Pioneer Hospital, Youngtown. Mr. Singh, 7660 N. 63rd was born in India and came to America in 1910. He served in the British Army in India from 1894 to 1896 and was a member of the Sikh Temple in El Centro, Calif.

Survivors include his wife, Herminia; a daughter, Adela Singh; two sons, Robert and Sam, all of Phoenix; two sisters of India; and two grandsons. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in A.L. Moore and Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams.

Cremation will follow. Emma Sauer Mrs. Emma L. Sauer, 73, who came here in 1960 from Streator, and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, died Thursday in Northwest Hospital, Glendale.

Mrs. Sauer, 6442 W. Whitton, was born in Clark, Ill. Survivors include her husband, William; three sons, Carl of Saugus, William of Rockford, and Walter of Tucson; three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Wissen of Tucson, Mrs.

June Wilkerson and Mrs. Rose Marie Robinson, both of Phoenix; 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be said at 7:15 a.m. today in the church, 3140 N. 51st Ave.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mildred E. Ashworth, 60, who was employed by the Veterans Employment Service, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Maryvale Mortuary, 6901 W. Indian School. Cremation will follow.

Mrs. Ashworth was found dead Tuesday in her home at 5438 W. Pierson. She served from 1943 to 1944 in the Women's Army Corps. Born in Lathrop, she moved her in 1962 from Los Angeles, Survivors include a cousin, Mrs.

Violet I. Brawner of Tonkawa, Okla. Gertrude Sullivan Rosary for Gertrude M. Sullivan, 78, who died yesterday in Lincoln Hospital, will be at 8 p.m. tomorrow in Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N.

The funds will be combined with $6,500 in city funds for the comprehensive planning assistance project. The comprehensive plan later will help the city qualify for other grant assistance programs. The preliminary details of the plan are expected to be presented by Dale Despain, consulting planner of Provo, Utah, at an open meeting of the City Council at 7:30 p.m. March 16.
